Clean Up the World in Gdańsk – join in!

The Department of Municipal Services at Gdańsk City Council invites residents to join in the celebrations for World Earth Day.

On Saturday, 25 April 2026, the next edition of the ‘Clean Up the World’ campaign will take place, combining environmental initiatives with community bonding and practical education.

This is an annual initiative aimed not only at tidying up green spaces, but above all at fostering a shared sense of responsibility for our surroundings. This year, activities will focus on three districts: Olszynka, Suchanino and Niedźwiednik.

Meeting points and locations

You can join the campaign at one of the three designated meeting points:

• Olszynka – green space at 2 Modra Street
• Suchanino – 8 Paderewskiego Street
• Niedźwiednik – 5 Podkarpacka Street (next to the garages)
  

The organisers will provide participants with:

• gloves and bin bags,
• support from educators and guidance on waste sorting,
• fruit refreshments.

Water will be available on site. The organisers encourage participants to bring their own water bottles or reusable bottles to reduce plastic consumption.

Knowledge is the key to change

This year’s edition places particular emphasis on correct waste sorting and reducing waste volumes.

A survey of Gdańsk residents conducted in November 2025 shows that, although environmental awareness is growing and we claim to care deeply about the environment, in practice there are still difficulties with proper waste sorting. Too many recyclable materials end up in the wrong bins – often not because of a lack of willingness, but because of uncertainty about where a particular item of waste should go. A community clean-up is not just about tidying up the neighbourhood, but also an opportunity to reinforce good habits and gain practical knowledge. The presence of educators at the Clean City of Gdańsk stands will help residents resolve their doubts and make it easier to adopt the right habits in everyday life – says Anna Wołodźko, Director of the Department of Municipal Services.

– Clean Up the World is not just a good opportunity to do something useful for your neighbourhood. It is also an annual test of our maturity as a community in the face of global climate challenges. You don’t need to prepare specially – just come along and spare a moment to tidy up the places we use every day together,” says Piotr Kryszewski, Director of Green Gdańsk. – It is precisely such simple steps that lead to bigger changes. That is why I encourage residents to take part – together we can achieve a visible impact and make a real difference to the state of the environment.
